Marimekko designer Maija Isola got the idea for the Kaivo pattern when she was fetching water from a well. Having dropped the bucket into the well, she watched how rippling circles formed on the surface of the water.

Marimekko Corporation is a leading Finnish textile and clothing design company that was established in 1951. The company designs, manufactures and markets high-quality clothing, interior decoration textiles, bags and other accessories under the Marimekko brand, both in Finland and abroad. Marimekko were made famous worldwide by Jacqueline Kennedy, who bought eight Marimekko dresses which she wore throughout the 1960 US Presidential campaign.
